L: And in that day, a decree went out across all Judea…

L: And the day came for the baby to be born…

P:  This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.

L: Truly I tell you, before this day ends, you will deny me three times…

P: This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.

L: And on the first day of the week, the women went to the tomb…

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes…

ADVENT PRAYER

Please join me in affirming our faith through prayer.

L: Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who has come to set the chosen people free.

P: The Lord has raised up for us a mighty Savior from the house of David.

L: Through the holy prophets, God promised of old to save us from our enemies, from the hands of all who hate us;

P: to show mercy to our forebears and to remember the holy covenant.

L: This was the oat God wore to our father Abraham:

P: to set us free from the hands of our enemies, free to worship without fear, holy and righteous in the Lord’s sight, all the days of our life.

L: And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare the way,

P: to give God’s people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of their sins.

L: In the tender compassion of our God the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

P: to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

SCRIPTURE READING John 3:16-17, John 15:9-13

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

RESPONSE TO SCRIPTURE

One: This is the word of God for the people of God.
All: Thanks be to God.
