CALL TO WORSHIP
L: With what shall we come before the Lord?
P: What shall we bring into the presence of our God,
as an expression of our worship and praise?
L: Shall we bring him all that we own—
P: our finest possessions, our life-savings,
our investments and property?
Would God be satisfied if we brought everything we possess?
L:No, that’s not what God is looking for.
God has told you what is good,
and what he expects of you:
P: To do justice.
To love mercy.
To walk humbly before him.
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
Please join me in our affirmation of faith:
All: O Lord, open our eyes that we may see the needs of refugees; open our ears that we may hear people’s cries for justice; open our hearts that we may assist sojourners near and far. Show us where love, hope and faith are needed. Use us as ministers of your healing. Let us not be afraid to protect the weak because of the anger of the strong, or to defend the poor because of the power of the rich. Sustain us so that in these coming days we may be able to do some work of peace for you.
Proverbs 31:8-9, Leviticus 19:33-34
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly;defend the rights of the poor and needy.
“ ‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God. “
