L: O come let us worship and lift our hearts . . .

P: Not because the world is good and last week was perfect,

but because the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it,

the God of the whole Earth.

L: O come let us worship and raise our hands . . .

P: Not because our lives are all sweetness and light,

But because even those who walk in darkness

     can see a great light,

     the Bright and Morning Star

L: O come let us worship and bow down . . .

P: Not because God gives us what we want,

But because God gives us what we need –

the Savior who loves us, God’s Unspeakable Gift.

Please join me in an affirmation of faith:

This is love. Not that you spoke words of comfort, walked with the unclean and unloved, shared wisdom, bread and wine, brought healing into lives and challenged the status quo.

This is love. That you spoke the word of God, walked a painful road to the Cross, shared living water, bread of life, brought Salvation to the world and died for the sake of all.

This is love. It is a seed sown in the ground, which germinates, blossoms, and spreads its sweet perfume.

Romans 5:1-8

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.  Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

One: This is the word of God for the people of God.
All: Thanks be to God.
