Call to Worship
One: I am a worm, and not human;
All: scorned by others and despised by the people
One: All who see me mock at me,
All: they make mouths at me, they wag their heads.
One: Yet it was you who took me from the womb;
All: you kept me safe upon my mother’s breast.
One: Upon you I was cast from my birth, and since my mother bore me, you have been my God.
All: Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is none to help.
The Apostles’ Creed, Ecumenical Version
All: I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
Scripture Reading from 2 Timothy 3:10-17, CEB
“10But you have paid attention to my teaching, conduct, purpose, faithfulness, patience, love, and endurance. 11You have seen me experience physical abuse and ordeals in places such as Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. I put up with all sorts of abuse, and the Lord rescued me from it all! 12In fact, anyone who wants to live a holy life in Christ Jesus will be harassed. 13But evil people and swindlers will grow even worse, as they deceive others while being deceived themselves.
14But you must continue with the things you have learned and found convincing. You know who taught you. 15Since childhood you have known the holy scriptures that help you to be wise in a way that leads to salvation through faith that is in Christ Jesus. 16Every scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for showing mistakes, for correcting, and for training character, 17so that the person who belongs to God can be equipped to do everything that is good.”
Response to Scripture
One: This is the word of God for the people of God.
All: Thanks be to God.
