CALL TO WORSHIP

One: I will bless the Lord at all times; God’s praise shall continually be in my mouth.

All: My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and be glad.

One: Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the Lord delivers them.

All: The Lord keeps all their bones; not one of them is broken.

One: Evil shall slay the wicked; and those who hate the righteous will be condemned.

All: The Lord redeems the life of his servants; none of those who take refuge in God will be condemned.

Affirmation of Faith

Will you please join me in affirming our faith with An Affirmation from I Corinthians 15: 1-16 And Colossians 1:15-20?

This is the good news which we have received, in which we stand, and by which we are saved:

Christ died for our sins, was buried, was raised on the third day, and appeared first to the women, then to Peter and the Twelve, and then to many faithful witnesses.

We believe Jesus is the Christ, the Anointed One of God, the firstborn of all creation, the firstborn from the dead, in whom all things hold together, in whom the fullness of God was pleased to dwell by the power of the Spirit.

Christ is the head of the body, the church, and by the blood of the cross reconciles all things to God. Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING

When Joseph reached his brothers, they stripped off Joseph’s long robe, took him, and threw him into the cistern, an empty cistern with no water in it. When they sat down to eat, they looked up and saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead, with camels carrying sweet resin, medicinal resin, and fragrant resin on their way down to Egypt. Judah said to his brothers, “What do we gain if we kill our brother and hide his blood? Come on, let’s sell him to the Ishmaelites. Let’s not harm him because he’s our brother; he’s family.” His brothers agreed. When some Midianite traders passed by, they pulled Joseph up out of the cistern. They sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver, and they brought Joseph to Egypt.
