CALL TO WORSHIP
One: And in the last days it shall come to pass, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh,
All: And your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old shall dream dreams, and your young shall see visions.
One: When the Day of Pentecost had come, they were all gathered together in one place.
All: And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
One: And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each of them.
All: And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
Will you please join me in affirming our faith with An Affirmation from I Corinthians 15: 1-16 And Colossians 1:15-20?
This is the good news which we have received, in which we stand, and by which we are saved:
Christ died for our sins, was buried, was raised on the third day, and appeared first to the women, then to Peter and the Twelve, and then to many faithful witnesses.
We believe Jesus is the Christ, the Anointed One of God, the firstborn of all creation, the firstborn from the dead, in whom all things hold together, in whom the fullness of God was pleased to dwell by the power of the Spirit.
Christ is the head of the body, the church, and by the blood of the cross reconciles all things to God. Amen.
Sarai, Abram’s wife, had not been able to have children. Since she had an Egyptian servant named Hagar, Sarai said to Abram, “The LORD has kept me from giving birth, so go to my servant. Maybe she will provide me with children.” Abram did just as Sarai said. After Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, Abram’s wife Sarai took her Egyptian servant Hagar and gave her to her husband Abram as his wife. He slept with Hagar, and she became pregnant. But when she realized that she was pregnant, she no longer respected her mistress. Sarai said to Abram, “This harassment is your fault. I allowed you to embrace my servant, but when she realized she was pregnant, I lost her respect. Let the LORD decide who is right, you or me.”
Abram said to Sarai, “Since she’s your servant, do whatever you wish to her.” So Sarai treated her harshly, and she ran away from Sarai.
