L: How blessed we are that God forgives us and loves us!

 P: For all those times when we have fallen short of what God

               would have us be, we have been forgiven.

           L: God makes us new in God’s Spirit!

           P: Now is the time to joyfully accept the newness of life

               which God offers to us.

          L: Come, let us worship and be thankful.

          P: Let us open our hearts to the peace and joy of God. AMEN.

Will you please join me in affirming our faith through prayer?

O God,
just as we look into a mirror to see any soiled spots on our face,
so let us look at you
in order to understand the things we have done apart from
your will.
We are like a reed shaken in the wind, and we are so very weak.
Leave us not to ourselves,
but dwell in our hearts and guide our thoughts and actions. Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING Psalm 103:8-12, 1 John 1:9

The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love.
He will not always accuse,
nor will he harbor his anger forever;
he does not treat us as our sins deserve
or repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his love for those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

One: This is the word of God for the people of God.
All: Thanks be to God.
